Tracking

In today’s world, where conditions are becoming more complex, a powerful tracking solution needs to be versatile. We can offer you a hybrid tracking solution that combines three different tracking methods.

First-Party-Cookie-Tracking

The system is based on first-party tracking. It starts with cookie-based tracking on your shop domain. The cookie is set through a separate subdomain of your shop, which is created on the server by the network. The shop just needs to set it as a CNAME.

Advantages:
The cookie is set directly on your shop’s domain, meaning no third-party cookies from the network’s tracking domain are used. Instead, a first-party cookie is used. This helps avoid ad blockers that block third-party cookies, ensuring secure tracking and complete conversion tracking. Plus, first-party cookies won’t be affected by upcoming Google Chrome updates.

Parameter-based tracking (also SEO-friendly tracking)

Additionally, parameter-based tracking should be activated. In this method, the publisher links directly to your shop without a redirect through an ad server. No cookies are set with this tracking method. Instead, tracking is performed directly in the shop using JavaScript, which is also called or initiated on a first-party subdomain of the shop. The prerequisite for parameter-based tracking is the integration of the belboon on-page codes. All tracking-related information is appended as an amc parameter to the respective deep link and transmitted to you.

Advantages:
In this tracking method, no cookies are set through an ad server, which could be blocked by browsers. Additionally, there are no redirects that could be blocked by browsers. The publisher’s link leads directly (without an ad server redirect) to the target page of your shop. This direct linking can also result in positive SEO effects.

Server-to-Server Tracking

In addition to the two browser-based tracking solutions that are based on a first-party subdomain, server-to-server tracking completes the hybrid setup. Unlike parameter-based or cookie-based tracking, server-to-server tracking takes place outside the browser. All tracking-relevant parameters are transmitted to you in the form of the belboon clickID. The clickID can be used for both session-based cookie-less tracking performed in the browser and for server-to-server (S2S) tracking.

Advantages:
The tracking takes place directly via your server, independent of the browser. The tracking information is sent directly from server to server, so no data is stored in cookies that could potentially be blocked or suppressed. This results in high measurement accuracy, as ad blockers cannot block cookies. Additionally, you don’t need any extra tag management (e.g., Google Tag Manager), plugins, or similar tools for activation.

Why a server-side solution is necessary in addition to browser-based tracking: Different browsers are increasingly limiting the ability to write and read cookies. Either the writing and reading of cookies is completely suppressed, or the agreed cookie lifetime is restricted by the browser.

How can I check the tracking URL?

You can find this under the “Trail” section and then click on “Check Tracking URL.”
